Twitter Alert is a prototype for a device that alerts you when one of your very favorite Tweeters (whether they be friend or celebrity) posts a Tweet. The user can select up to four usernames and assign each to one of the four colored lights—coordinating bird clips and a magnet board are provided to allow personalization of Twitter Alert with labels or pictures of the selected friends or celebrities.
The user can specify up to four usernames in PHP script that then pulls their Twitter feed information from the Twitter search API, counts their total number of tweets and relays this number to a Processing sketch. The Processing sketch in turn parses the information retrieved from the PHP script and determines whether or not the user has tweeted. If they have, it turns the light that corresponds to that user on through an Arduino running firmata. The lights turn on in real time, and stay illuminated until the user has acknowledged receipt of that alert.
